mistake of inviting everyone in Camden for some free food. Neighbors, punks, drug dealers, kids from a local estate, and everyone else you could think of were feasting together and experiencing what a church could actually look like. Sure, some things were stolen, but over 12 people got saved that day!
In 2006 they held the first Freedom Fest near Camden Lock. It was a music and cultural festival that mixed Christians with artists and performers of other faiths or none at all. People shared testimonies and preached between grime groups, punk bands and capoeira dancers. There were also market stalls, carnival games and even kids rides. The market traders didn’t make much at all that day, but the music was awesome and the freedom of Jesus all over the place. It was simply ‘laying out the blanket’ in a whole new way.
In the last few years we’ve also seen the many difficulties in planting a church in the capital. There have been heartbreaks, failed recoveries and all kinds of struggles rooted in our nature as humans to live life by our own rules. But God has still proven faithful through it all.
