Duty Calls

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiates 12:13

Duty Calls:

Duty has become a dirty word.

If you read anything containing the ‘d’ word printed before 1900*, you’ll find it actually used to be an honourable use of 4 letters. What happened?

Somewhere along the way, humans living in ‘developed’ countries decided that things not worth enjoying, weren’t really worth doing (at least well or for long period’s of time).

History has never had a shortage of things people had to do, but the difference today is that we’ve become infatuated with the perceived privileges of the good life. A life much like yours, but containing those nice extras like a little fame, recognition and the freedom to do as you please i.e. more money.

So where is the greener grass for you?

Every 20 seconds someone will become famous, simply because we live in a fame chasing culture that needs to supply the demand. The problem is that so many who become famous aren’t ready to handle the responsibility of it.

“I’m not a role model!’” is a favourite phrase uttered by many in this privileged position. Christians like to use the the same phrase to justify many of their weaknesses and/or sinful ‘freedoms’, but it comes packaged in a much more spiritual sounding, “Only God can judge me.” Let’s just remember that he actually will do just that, but he would much rather say “Well done!” than “I told you so.”

God loves reminding his people just how special and privileged they are to be under his care. He goes to great lengths to make this known, but many times his children forget the responsibility of being blessed. We love the freedom to choose our churches, calling, partners, etc. But when the responsibilities of these privileges get too heavy, its time to move to an easier street…

Maybe this message has nothing to do with you today, maybe it has everything. Either way it’s good to be reminded that we are all responsible to the gifts and privileges that have been put on our plates today.

Duty calls the bondslaves of Jesus to the freedom of fulfilling their earthy responsibility to serve him with all their heart and soul!

Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty with all of your beautiful duties this week. A slight shift in thinking might make bright green grass grow right beneath your own two feet.
