Higher Ground

I was caught up into the third heaven…Whether my body was there or just my spirit, I don’t know; only God knows…2 Cor 12:2-3
HIGHER GROUND:
How mind blowing is heaven really? Does anyone on earth actually know?
We’ve all been raised with images of the after-life painted by the skillful (and culturally biased) hands of deceased artists. But as beautiful as these masterpieces can be, how much can we really learn about our eternal future through the fading colours of rotting canvases that hang in ageing museums?
I truly do admire the skill and imagination of those who’ve tried to capture the infinite using horsehair tied to a stick. What concerns me today is how many of us can rarely spare a 5min daydream to wonder what forever will be like.
I often hear phrases like, “It’s too much for our mortal minds to handle.” or “One day we’ll be able to understand…” Although I agree with the logic of these statements, I am saddened by their attitude; which basically says, “Why even try to think about it?”
It’s much easier to envision limitless playgrounds for our favourite hobbies or even worse, playing harps upon powder puff clouds with Cabbage Patch Kid angels. Isn’t it also strange how we can assume that technology gets stuck in the middle ages within a place of infinite creativity? Imagine instead, Spirit-filled inventions and innovations that need no ‘bottom line’ to justify their existence, only God’s glory! It also might surprise alot of us to know that the capital of God’s Kingdom is right here on the earth. The same exact one we are standing on now: just completely restored.
The invisible Almighty has always been into giving glimpses of His glory. From Jacob’s Escalator to Ezekiel’s Big Wheels to John’s Fantasy Island. There are so many stories, pictures and parables showing us what’s coming soon for the followers of the King who is not of this world.
I’ve met some (very rational) people who have been blessed with sneak-peeks of the world to come. Their accounts may vary in intensity and details, but the lasting effect seems to prompt permanent, life altering changes in themselves and those around them. It’s like a really good movie trailer, which excites you enough to go see the whole production on opening day—and to take others with you!
When is the last time you asked God for a glimpse of His glory? And have you recently looked into the divine discoveries left behind by our spiritual ancestors?
I know your probably very busy these days, but here’s a challenge for you this week:
I dare you to to read the last 2 pages of the book I keep quoting and daydream about the City of God. Check the dimensions, touch the walls and taste fresh fruit. Walk down the heaven’s high street barefoot and dive into the river of life. It’s amazing what happens when God helps us read between the lines.
Remember: Forever is nothing without now.
Sweet Day Dreams,
