The Beautiful Pattern

In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence & incorruptibility… Titus 2:7
Patterns are all around us: in clouds, on pavement, on wallpaper, etc. Even the plain coloured piece of clothing you put on this morning has a pattern (just look a bit closer).
We are surrounded by intricate rhythms that dictate the way we interact with reality. Patterns vary from the microscopic to the economic and far beyond the astronomic. So what’s the big deal?
All of us are woven into this by simple fact that our beating heart still follows a steady pattern.
Although we won’t decide what the headlines will say today, we do have the power to choose what patterns we will think and act upon as clock ticks by and the beat goes on. Our daily decisions determine the future we will inherit and the legacy we’ll leave behind.
Believers in the Pattern Maker have always shared in the same unchanging task throughout history. We are here to add to the beautiful mosaic of enduring faith which defies the fearful forecasts of our times. It is by this, that God is glorified.
Paul, a needle-bearing tent-maker, reminded his Roman friends not to conform to the patterns of this world. They lived in a tangled city, knotted-up in corruption, idolatry, and the uncertainty of who the next Caesar would be. Sound familiar?
Today we can take the same comfort knowing God has a wonderful design being knitted to perfection as we speak. He uses the common threads of prayerful thoughts, faithful words and obedient actions to tell a story that the world actually wants to hear.
We are a heavenly design made of earthly fabric, not a worldly weave with a religious label.
Will you be a sharpened needle, ready to bob and weave through the challenges that face you this week, or will you be another knot in an unfinished winter sweater, waiting for the weather to get better? I ask myself this very question today more than ever.
Together, our answers will determine what pattern the world will see when they think of a ‘Christian’, and more importantly, the Designer we represent.
Let’s make a pattern worth looking at this week.
Maybe someone will want to try it on?
Holding it Together w/ Him,
