In between jobs…
In between schools…
In between relationships…
In between a rock & a hard place…
In between packing up and settling in….
In between prime ministers and presidents…
In between “Wanna go out sometime?” and “I do…”
In between “It’s a girl!” and “She always was a caring person…”
The transitions of life* are as inevitable as the moon and its many phases – telling the ocean’s currents where to go. So are you currently riding a tide of good fortune or getting smashed by waves of consequence?
A wise person once blogged, “It’s never as bad as it seems. And it’s never as good as it seems either…” This is not a mantra for living inside a spin-cyle of cynicism, but rather a recognition that solid ground is never found upon the sands of circumstance. We are wired for growth and change, no matter how hard we fight it.
Moses led a couple million newly freed slaves through 40 years of constant wandering; and they hated it! His ancestor Abraham spent his whole life as a tent dwelling nomad, following an promise he would never see fulfilled in his own life. And didn’t the Son of Man have no place to lay his head? Were these people being ripped off and cursed to waste their days as transients; or were they simply given an opportunity to experience life in a way that modern minds find hard to appreciate?
No bottom-line or upgrade in sight? I dare you to embrace whatever ‘in-between’ you find yourself in this week. Harness the anxiety, man-hug the uncertainty and go limp like clay before your Creator. He loves to animate unsteady feet to promise-lands we would never find without his help.
And if you feel abandoned in the divine guidance department, maybe it’s simply your turn to make the next move. God encourages us to do that from time to time…
So what will you do between heads or tails today?
